Hello world! That’s apparently how every blog starts, and probably how most stop.
My name is Tobias Mann, and Welcome to the Adventure Bent blog, I hope you find something here that intrigues you. I love hiking, exploring, wheeling and the outdoor lifestyle in general. That’s exactly what this blog is all about.
I grew up in the back of a canoe, paddling the waters of the Red River Valley. I was tossed about the back of a little 4×4 on the the old ox-cart trails that crisscross Northwest Minnesota. Before I could walk, my mother carried me up and down the Superior Hiking Trails.
As an adult, I spend a lot of my free time rediscovering my love for the great outdoors.
I decided to start this project as a kind of Journal of my adventures, projects and stories. I also wanted to create a space to share my photos. I’m an avid photographer with years of training and experience.
From where I live in South-Eastern Minnesota, I have access to countless hiking, biking and of course waterways.
In addition to these pursuits, I have a growing interest in off-roading and overland travel. I love traveling to new and exciting places. For me, the journey is more important than the destination.
Of course I’m not expert. I’m learning a lot of this for the first time or relearning again years later. Of course I’ll be writing about all the things I learn along the way.
When I’m not outside exploring the wild, I work full time as a reporter for two weekly newspapers in La Crosse County, Wisconsin. I love what I do and the people I meet are often amazing.
I guess you could say I am a writer through and through. What ever my experiences and passions are, I am compelled to write about them.
Over the last few years, this compulsion has birthed various projects and blogs.
I originally started blogging regularly in 2010 when I launched the Freed Up Thoughts blog, a tech site that has evolved greatly over the past six years.
In those six years, I’ve learned a great deal about blogging and marketing. I hope these insights will help me reach new people and make new connections.
While I am sad to have let the last blog go, I now feel I am capable of taking on a new project with this one.
Sure, it’s not always easy coming home from work and doing something like this, but I love it.
So, I welcome you to the Adventure Bent blog.
